Barbados Bites

NATIONAL DISH

Barbados is known for its creative cuisine which carries notes of English, African and Indian heritage. Flying fish is the national dish, usually coated in breadcrumbs, fried and served alongside ‘cou cou’ – a mixture of corn meal, okra, water and butter.

FISH FRIDAYS

The famous Friday Night Fish Fry at Oistins is a must-do when in Barbados! Delicious fresh fish is cooked to order and heaped on plates, and when you’ve finished sampling all the delicacies, from mahi-mahi to macaroni pie, there are market stalls selling trinkets, arts and crafts.

FINE DINING

Barbados appeals to foodies far and wide, with an exquisite assortment of fine dining venues lined up along the coast. One of our favourites is Daphne’s, overseen by the acclaimed Chef Michele Blasi, and known for its Italian-Caribbean fusion dishes and unforgettable oceanfront setting.

Ocean Two - Pool Deck - wide.jpg

Ocean Two, Barbados

There are so many characteristics we love about Ocean Two, from the three-times-daily Happy Hour at the swim-up pool bar to the laid-back Panorama Rooftop Deck, the fresh coconut bar on the beach and the heavenly memory foam sun loungers.

The location is also hard to beat – the resort sits on a secluded bay, yet walk for just five minutes and you’re at the famous St Lawrence Gap with its buzzing bars, restaurants and live music. The 88 rooms and suites are stylish and spacious, with each offering partial or direct ocean views. Relax on your private balcony or take advantage of blissful in-room spa treatments.

For all the opportunities there are to sit back and relax in the sunshine, there’s also a host of complimentary non-motorised watersports to enjoy; plunge into the turquoise waters of the ocean and discover an underwater world with snorkelling or diving to shipwrecks and coral reefs, take out a kayak or hobie cat, or learn to surf.

Sea Breeze Beach House, Barbados

This gorgeous all-inclusive resort, set on the vibrant south coast, has recently undergone a $15 million refurbishment project which has seen it transformed into a beach house style boutique hotel.

With separate adult-only and family areas, a fantastic Caribbean holiday can be had at Sea Breeze whether you’re travelling with children, teens or as a couple. Sea Breeze has four fabulous new restaurants including Mahogany Lounge with its island-inspired interiors, the elegantly-casual Aqua Terra for fresh seafood and sumptuous steaks, and Cerulean for sophisticated fine dining in an intimate, romantic setting.

We’re particularly enamoured with the Chef’s Tasting Room – a pop-up dining experience offering a five course taster menu with paired wines, designed exclusively for the occasion by the Executive Chef. If you’ve got kids in tow, take them to The Rum Shop Café for homemade Bajan pastries and sweet treats alongside fresh smoothies and ice cream.
